In cheaper pottery, most cracking and crazing (cracking below the glaze) happens because water gets into the pottery, and then expands and contracts with changes in temperature in the oven, dishwasher, microwave or freezer causing the pottery to crack. Vitrified Stoneware can be used safely in the oven, microwave, and dishwasher without worrying about cracking.
